These tents come in the recognizable dome shape, as well as more conventional squarer shapes. The dome model is advantageous in that the aluminium poles are often replaced by plastic material that makes them easier and quicker to erect. This is especially important in bad weather! Protection is also provided in newer models by synthetic materials such as polypropylene or nylon that may be waterproof and wind resistant. For example, the Coleman model provides a good beginner’s tent including divided rooms and easy to assemble lightweight poles, that is easy to use and relatively durable. As a beginner or part-time camper, such a functional and simple model should be sufficient for your needs. More experienced or frequent campers may decide on something different.

Whatever you decide to choose, ensure that it is large enough to comfortably accommodate everyone in your group, as well as any gear that you wish to store inside. The more gear that you have inside, the less people you should consider sleeping in it.
